Muncie’s Sesquicentennial Celebration

The City of Muncie will celebrate their 150th Anniversary in 2015.

To kick-off events to celebrate the city, Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler will read a proclamation at the February 2 meeting of the Muncie City Council.  February 2, 1865 was the date the Common Council voted to incorporate.

Additionally Tyler will speak to the Muncie Noon Rotary club on February 3, and will be present at the February 4 Muncie on the Move Breakfast, an event of the Muncie-Delaware County Chamber of Commerce.

Special Activities

These events will be the beginning of a long celebration that will culminate with activities at the Muncie Arts Walk, scheduled for October 1, 2015.

A steering committee has been working to outline some special activities as well as highlighting great events that already take place in Muncie throughout the year.  The City of Muncie has a rich history and we are working with many groups to help promote that.

A Facebook Page has been developed to help promote the activities that the community can become involved in.  Many will be open to the public and free of charge, including the Fourth of July Fireworks.  Other events many have a gate fee.

Among the activities being planned include:  The State of the City Address on April 16th at Horizon Convention Center by Muncie Mayor Dennis Tyler.  Neighborhood Associations are working on special activities and Horizon Convention Center is hosting a Gala event on September 19, 2015.
